In My Mailbox - (32)

I splurged on adult books again! This is what happens when I'm not allowed to buy YA - I go insane in the charity shops. Seriously, I sort of black out and next thing I know I'm walking down the road with two bags and an empty purse.

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren every week. Here is what I bought from the charity shop.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling
Goodreads

Yes, I know this is a YA book and is going against my ban. But I've already read it and it was just £1 in the charity shop, so I don't think it breaks my ban. I have the adult edition of this, and I just needed this one to match the rest of my set. So, I bought it!

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Goodreads

This is a post-apocalyptic novel (as if you didn't know!) about a father and son. I've been wanting to read it for ages, and I've heard the relationship between the father and son is really touching.











Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
Goodreads

I've seen the movie for this, starring Jude Law, and I really enjoyed it. Of course, when I saw this for just £1 I had to get it!












The Vanished Man by Jeffery Deaver
Goodreads

This is the fifth book in the Lincoln Rhyme series, written by the bloke who wrote The Bone Collector. I plan on reading them in order, but this was the only one of the series in the shop. I've heard Deaver's books are fantastic, so I look forward to reading it!










The Lost World by Michael Crichton

You should all know by know that I absolutely love dinosaurs. TV shows, movies, books... Anything. I read Jurassic Park ages and ages ago, but I want to reread it and then start this! Oh, and have any of you heard of the new TV show starting on FOX tomorrow? It's called Terra Nova, and it's about people who are sent back in time to when the dinosaurs lived! I'm definitely going to be watching it.








The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans
Goodreads

I'm pretty sure that the movie for this is coming out this autumn. It sounds like a great read, and I've heard lots of people talk about it.

    I don't like most of the adults books unless they are Historical or Classics still like your books a lot and way to go with the Harry Potter book.

    Cold Mountain is a great story. It's more than just a war book...

    Also, The Horse Whisperer was really good. I think I cried....

    Buying Harry Potter is perfectly acceptable, even if you are on a YA book ban, manly because its Harry Potter. LoL I hope you enjoy your new books.

    The matching HP set is SO understandable! Which I have to say since I have a full hardcover set of both the US and adult UK covers. >.>

    But the 'adult' novels look awesome too! I loved The Road.

    I've read all of Harry Potter as well, but I'm in the process of buying all the books again in hardcover, just because all my old copies started falling apart after being read so many times! Thanks for stopping. :)

    Great finds this week! I totally understand wanting your HP books to match. Because of the way I organize my books, I hate when a series goes from paperback to hardcover, because then they're on different shelves.

    I avoid the shops if I don't want to walk out of them with a stack of books. Haaven't been to a bookstore in about a month. Still doesn't help me with online shopping, but oh well. Glad you found some bargains.

    Nice selection of books! I have been wanting to read Cold Mountain too. I am hoping to read it with my book discussion group.

    I have that edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows too and have the original US hardcover as well.

    It is hard to go into a bookstore and not buy something. At least you got some good deals :)

    Eh. I'm a YA gal but I do read romances from authors like JOhanna Lindsey, Nora Roberts, Jude Deveraux.

    Oh! The Lost World! I've read books by Michael Crichton. Truth be told, one of them gave me a headache because of all the technical science stuff. LOL
