Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's top ten topic is:
Books I Resolve to Read in 2013
I picked books that I've always been meaning to read, but haven't managed to get to yet. There's also a reread in there because I read it ages ago, and need to reread before reading the sequel!
1. Jurassic Park/The Lost World by Michael Crichton
I read Jurassic Park years and years ago. Dinosaurs are my favourite thing EVER, and so of course I had to read this. The movie is also one of my favourites. I've never read The Lost World, though, so I need to reread Jurassic Park before getting to that.

2. The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
I started this when I was about six or seven, and couldn't get into it. I'm trying again this year, though!

3. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
I've heard LOADS about this one, and I want to finally get to it. It's also part of my plan to read more 'adult' novels this year.

4. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
I've heard so many mixed things about this one, but I want to read it so that I can watch the movie. Because you should always read the book first!
5. The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
I read The Hobbit back in December, and really didn't enjoy it. Nevertheless, I'm gonna give this one a go because I think I'll enjoy it a lot more. The story is much more complex than that of The Hobbit!

6. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
This is another one I want to read just so I can watch the movie. I've heard that the movie is better, but I'll have to read the book first before I can judge!

7. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
I didn't get the chance to read this before the movie came out, but that's okay because I wasn't going to watch the movie anyway. I'll get to this at some point!

8. Matched by Ally Condie
Hahahaha, I've been trying to read this for two years. Okay, that's an exaggeration. I picked it up two years ago, stopped about fifty pages in and then never picked it back up again. I'm determined to finish it this year so that I can get it out of my Currently Reading shelf, and so I can see if I end up liking it!

9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
My auntie recommended this to me a couple of years ago, and I still haven't managed to read it. I have it on my shelf, and I WILL be reading it in 2013.

10. A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin
I finished A Game of Thrones a couple of weeks ago, after I had been stuck reading it for over a year. I want to give this series a fair go, and I want to read these before the new season starts up on TV. Wish me luck!

  1. LOVE the Game of Thrones series - both the books and the TV show. I've only read the first two books in the series but I'm definitely planning to buy the rest of them!

    1. I've heard that the movie was better than the book, but I tried watching the movie a few days ago and couldn't get into it. I still want to read the book, though!

      Thanks, dearie! You too!

    1. I know what you mean about Game of Thrones! The writing is tiny as well. I'm making myself read just 100 pages a day, so it's not *too* bad, but still.

  7. I can't believe we both didn't read The Lord of the Rings or The Lord of the Flies (I thought I was the only one)! I have to read Beautiful Creatures too for the movie!

    1. Haha, you're definitely not the only one! I started both when I was younger, but I guess my tastes weren't quite right back then. This will be the year!

  8. Matched isn't as awesome as people make it out to be. I have to read Beautiful Creatures too, before the movie comes out. My friend really liked it, so I bought them. I hope it's worth it!

    1. Haha, I've been told that Matched is terrible. I couldn't get into it, but I refuse to give up so I must soldier on! EEP, I hope you like Beautiful Creatures! I've heard it's boring, but since the movie is coming out I thought I should read it!

  9. Lord of the Rings is definitely an easier read than The Hobbit-- it's faster-paced and more interesting. Game of Thrones definitely gets GOOD; love that series! I also really liked Perks of Being A Wallflower and The Road, but agree with Emily above about Matched (meh). Anyway, awesome tbr list, you have so many great books on here!

  11. Beautiful Creatures has been on my shelf FOREVER, but I resolve to read it as well this year! :) I love the Perks! And I hope you finally get to finish Matched haha, though I think you might want to stop with those series after (Crossed was definitely worse!). Happy New Year, Amber! :D

    1. Woo, HIGH FIVE! We can be in this together XD

Ugh, I don't think I'll bother reading Crossed because I can just about stand Matched!

      Happy New Year! <3

  12. I hope you enjoy The Lord of the Rings trilogy! I read it when I was about 13 and I think maybe I'll pick it up again now that I'm older. I haven't read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but I've heard nothing but good things about it :).

    Have a Happy New Year!

    1. Thanks! I'm really looking forward to reading it, especially since I've forgotten most of the stuff in the movies and it'll be like starting over.

  13. Lots of classics here. I have to say that Lord of the Flies is probably my all time least favorite book ever sadly. I loved the Girl in the Dragon Tattoo, but I was very glad someone told me to be excessively patient with it b/c the first 100 pages or so are really hard to get through and then al of a sudden it grabs ahold of you and is AMAZING! The Perks of Being a Wallflower sounds very good. I might have to try it. Happy reading.

    1. Noooo, sorry you didn't enjoy Lord of the Flies! I'm so excited to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Thanks for letting me know about the difficult start. I might have been tempted to give up otherwise!

  14. I liked Beautiful Creatures, but it wasn't a favorite of mine. That said, I am really excited for the movie, and am glad I've read the book before I see the movie.

Good luck on your reading resolutions :)

    Happy New Year!

    1. I'll be honest, I only want to watch the movie because of Jeremy Irons. But still, I bought the book ages ago so I have to get to it at some point!

  15. I'm picking up Beautiful Creatures from the library this week or next. I also want to see the movie, which is the same reason I want to read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, haha :)

I really really like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - however, it took me drudging through 75 pgs or so which are pretty technical and bogged down in details to get to a good part and really start enjoying it. So maybe keep that in mind if you start off not liking it!

    1. I'll definitely keep that in mind! Thanks for letting me know about the slow start. I would have given up thinking that the whole book was like that :D

  16. I need to read Lord of the Rings too because I absolutely love the films and apparently the books give more detail, plus I saw The Hobbit last week and it got me all excited again :).

  17. The Lost World is really good, although Jurassic Park is better. But dinosaurs <3

No-one gets eaten in Lord of The Flies, jsyk. I read the whole thing expecting it to happen and it never did. Very disappointed tbh. It's an awesome book that will probably increase your paranoia about CONSTANT VIGILANCE though XD

Lol @ LOTR being on your list.

I didn't like Girl With a Dragon Tattoo much, although I never finished it so...
