Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without. Goodreads
Pivot Point was my first read of 2013. After a slight false start and DNF-ing a different novel, I picked up Pivot Point without even really knowing what it was about. I can honestly say that this is one of the best books I've read in a while. I would compare it to Altered by Jennifer Rush, which I also adored, due to the two sharing the same mystery element and for being able to capture my attention so well. Other than that the two books are pretty different. I just wanted to mention that I adored both of them!

Along with the ending, which I will get to momentarily, my favourite part of the book was the way the timelines connected. If you have read the summary, then you will see that Addie looks into the future to see two potential timelines and how they would work out if she chose them. Pivot Point alternates between the two timelines, and we get to see just how different Addie's life would be.

There were certain things that were in the background of one timeline, and then they became significant in the other. There were references and hints that Addie didn't get, but I did because I was able to see how both timelines connected. It was amazing. Most of the hints are subtle, and disguised really well beneath the vast changes. The whole concept was totally original and unique. I adored it.

Addie is an amazing character. She starts off as rather reserved and judgemental, but the way her character develops is fantastic. I also loved how she was so different in each timeline, because it really showed that events and circumstances can change and shape who you are. I loved her in both, although I think I have a preference for the Addie who chose her dad. I won't say why, but... well, it'll be obvious once you read it!

There are two love interests in Pivot Point, but not in the way you would think. It's a very cool way of exploring Addie's character in each, as well as working a slight love triangle (but not really, because one of the love interests is an ASS). I adored the other love interest though, because he was just so adorable! And he had some character growth in there and he teased Addie and the two had this AMAZING connection. And towards the end he was just THE BEST.

Now, the ending... IT WAS AMAZING. I got shivers when a reveal was made, because something was revealed to have happened in one timeline, and it was about to happen (in a slightly different way) in another. OH MY GAWSH. I had actual goosebumps all over my body and my heart stopped beating.

I find it so hard to write reviews on books that I love because I just want to gush and shout and keyboard smash all over the place. There is literally NOTHING I didn't like about this book. Definitely check it out when you get the chance, because it's brilliant. Almost good enough to be rated an All Time Favourite!

  1. I can't agree more on the character growth and the love interests and THE ENDING OH MY GOD. I had goosebumps too and I... SO GOOD! I had to buy this book. And I need the sequel! (Though I have no idea what to expect from it. Do you think there will be another 'choice'? I hope so!) Eeeeeee. (And thanks for linking my review :D)

    1. I'm hoping there will be another choice, although maybe it'll be told in a different sort of way? If that makes sense. It doesn't, I know. Haha.

      *breathes*

Perhaps we won't actually see both timelines this time, and we'll just know that Addie has to prevent something from happening. Or maybe there will be no way out and something bad happens in both. I DONT KNOW. But I'm excited :D

  4. Oooh, I enjoyed Altered so now you got me hooked! I really need something unique and refreshing, I'm tired of all the clicheé's and copycating. It's about time someone brought something new to the table. Eeek! And a love triangle that's not exactly a love triangle? That's my kind of a love triangle, I'll tell you that. I hate what they're all doing right now by bringing another guy into the picture to make things more interesting while it's actually not so this might be quite refreshing. If I'm not mistaken, this one is one of the books featured on my WoW this week. I cannot wait to read it and you just got me all excited on this! Yay! So glad you enjoyed it:)

  6. The split future with two different love interests sounds just like the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sliding doors. One guys a total jerk, cheating on her and everything. But yeah. Great review. I really want to read this.
