Book Blogger Hop (2)

Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop meme is hosted by Crazy For Books every week. All you basically do is answer the weekly book related question, and then link your blog on the list. Pretty simple, yes?

This week's question is:

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

There have been two. The most recent book of the two was The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. I had seen a lot of positive reviews on this book and when I heard it was about zombies I just couldn't wait to get my hands on it. But, after I had finished reading I felt very underwhelmed. You can read my review on it HERE.

The second book (or series) is The Twilight Saga. I'm not going to go into a huge rant about these books, because I could talk all day, but I just don't see why these books have the amount of attention they have.

As for the second half of the question, I haven't reviewed Twilight on my blog because I didn't read it recently. I did, however, review The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I didn't feel at all bad about posting my review, as I know that any reviews are - or should be - the reader's own opinion. I posted how I felt about it, and that was fine. I don't think anyone should feel pressured to give a more positive review than they feel is necessary, just to follow the crowd. Post what you want to post! It is your blog, after all.

Have a good week everyone!

  1. I agree with your Twilight Saga comment. I do like the books, but there's just too much hype!! It kinda put me off the books.

  2. Hi Amber - Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've heard mixed reviews on Glimmerglass... so I am hoping that I like it. It sounds good to me. *crossing my fingers*

  3. I was also pretty leery about the zombie concept, but surprisingly enjoyed The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I could see why someone wouldn't though...it was pretty depressing and I definitely had to read a "feel good" book afterwards to counteract all of those zombies!

  4. I've seen other people who didn't enjoy In the Forest of Hands and Teeth - I still need to read it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Hope you've had a good weekend!

  5. *Gasp* You didn't love THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH? Well, I'll try not to hold it against you :) TWILIGHT, on the other hand, totally understandable.

Glad to have found you via the Hop!

  6. I completely agree, Steph. I was very put off by the hype surrounding Twilight, but I still managed to read it nonetheless. I don't regret reading it, but I also wish that I hadn't been caught up in the craziness of it all! Haha.

Chrystal - you're welcome! It does sound good, and the cover is really pretty (I'm going back to the whole 'Judging a book by its cover' thing, oops).

Jen - I agree, it was depressing. I usually don't mind depressing novels but I didn't connect with the main character in TFOHAT so I guess that's the main thing that kept me back.

Christin - I hope you enjoy it! Don't let my comments put you off, plenty of people have loved it.

Susan - I'm sorry! ;) I did like The Dead Tossed Waves, if that makes you feel better about me? Haha. :D

  7. I couldn't connect with The Forests... either. I stopped reading around page 80. I do want to pick it up again sometime. Maybe I'll like it better when I'm in a different mood. It was too depressing for me at the time.

  8. I agree about Twilight - It's hyped up too much I think.

Thanks for visiting my blog - I'll be following you now too! Looking forward to reading more of your posts and reviews :)

  9. Hi, I'm a new follower! The Forest of Hands and Teeth was one of those books I was looking forward to reading, but when I saw all the negative reviews, I decided to take a pass. I agree that people shouldn't feel pressured to give positive reviews. Come check out my answer to this question at my blog!

  10. Cheers! One should not feel guilty for sharing ones opinion as long as it is respectful :)

  12. Small Review - it seems we have had similar experiences with books lately, with Tyger Tyger and TFOHAT! The main reason that I didn't connect with the book was the fact that I hated the main character.

Kristy - You're welcome, and thank you so much!

Laura - Hi! Thanks for following! You should give The Forest of Hands and Teeth a try, as a lot of people have loved it. Although, you should probably borrow it from your local library before deciding whether you want to buy it or not :)

    Sandy - I completely agree :)

Tina - Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I was the opposite to you - I much preferred The Dead-Tossed Waves to The Forest of Hands and Teeth. That's probably because I preferred the main character in the second book :)

I hope you all have an amazing week!

  13. I haven't gotten around to reading Carrie Ryan's books but that's probably because I'm not a huge fan of zombies lol. As for the Twilight series, I liked each successive book less and less. I usually end up reading all the books of a series though (unless it's super bad or there's a really long wait between books that I forgot what happened) because I generally don't like not knowing what happens to the characters.

  14. If you're not fond of zombies then I wouldn't suggest reading the book, as they're the only aspect of the book that I actually like, haha.

I am the same when it comes to series, although I don't often find a book that I dislike enough to not read on. The only example I can think of is The House of Night series. I dislike those books, I got through two before I got too annoyed/bored to read on. I guess I should have included that in my list, haha.
