Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan

What if you were bound for a new world, about to pledge your life to someone you'd been promised to since birth, and one unexpected violent attack made survival—not love—the issue?

Out in the murky nebula lurks an unseen enemy: the New Horizon. On its way to populate a distant planet in the wake of Earth's collapse, the ship's crew has been unable to conceive a generation to continue its mission. They need young girls desperately, or their zealous leader's efforts will fail. Onboard their sister ship, the Empyrean, the unsuspecting families don't know an attack is being mounted that could claim the most important among them...

Fifteen-year-old Waverly is part of the first generation to be successfully conceived in deep space; she was born on the Empyrean, and the large farming vessel is all she knows. Her concerns are those of any teenager—until Kieran Alden proposes to her. The handsome captain-to-be has everything Waverly could ever want in a husband, and with the pressure to start having children, everyone is sure he's the best choice. Except for Waverly, who wants more from life than marriage—and is secretly intrigued by the shy, darkly brilliant Seth.

But when the Empyrean faces sudden attack by their assumed allies, they quickly find out that the enemies aren't all from the outside.

Glow is the most riveting series debut since The Hunger Games, and promises to thrill and challenge readers of all ages.

Pre-order: Amazon USAmazon UK

This book sounds AMAZING! You all know how much I love a good dystopian, and judging by the synopsis and early reviews I have read, this dystopian novel is one of the best out this year. It's out in September in the US, and October in the UK, but lucky for me Macmillan were kind enough to send me a copy. I cannot wait to read this book, and to be honest I'll probably be reading this very, very soon! Have any of you read this? What did you think?

Oh, and did I mention just how stunning I find the UK cover? It reminds me a lot of Across the Universe, because of the stars. Squee!

  1. I read and reviewed it last week.. SO GOOD! Hurry and read it! It seriously made my favorites list :-)

    Love of Books

  2. that book looks so good!! That's awesome you got a copy already!!! I'm going to have to check it out when it comes out. Great pick!!

    Here's my WoW!

  3. Sounds amazing! It reminds me a lot of Across the Universe though I hope it's not too similar because that would be disappointing.

  4. I just received this one myself the other day. Can't wait to dig into it. Yours has a different cover. I think I like it better than the one I have. Good choice.

  5. This book sounds and looks interesting. I can't wait to read it when it comes out. New Follower. =] Thanks for visiting my blog earlier and commenting. Also you should definitely read the Percy Jackson series soon.

  6. OoO--a YA sci-fi. Those don't come along very often. Sounds awesome. Thanks for stopping by!

  10. I'm not sure if I like the UK cover or the US cover more - both are awesome! And you're right, this definitely reminds me of Across the Universe. I have an ARC of this one - can't wait to get started :D

    Stop by my WoW

  11. The beginning of the synopsis sounds a little like Across the Universe, which I loved. I'm definitely interested in reading this book too. Adding to my GR list!

  12. *sighs happily*

    *strokes computer screen*

Oh... right! I came to comment on your WoW. Uhm, yes, I'll get right on that *draws eyes away from sexy banner*

I love both covers of Glow! But this one is just so pretty. I absolutely love the colours. I've read some mixed reviews, but I'm really hoping it's good because this is exactly the kind of novel I'd love! Really hope you enjoy it!

  13. Oooo good choice! I'm also intrigued by this one, but though the cover (and the story slightly) remind me of Across the Universe, I'm still excited because it sounds just as good, if not better!

  14. Ha ha, just like Brodie I was kind of caught up in your Jensen.. I mean header.

Glow sounds like it might be the start of a great series. I love the cover and I agree it reminded me of Across the Universe.

  15. Oooh, love the cover! It's gorgeous! :)

  16. Awesome pick! I have it right now, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm excited to, though, since it sounds great.
