Emma, Reid and Graham's story continues in this sequel to Between the Lines, by bestselling author of Easy, Tammara Webber. Emma has pursued her dream - she's trying to live a normal life and attend university. But when a twist of fate means she encounters Graham again in New York, life promises to be anything but ordinary . . . - Goodreads
This book caused me so much distress. I read it for the 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, and so I was basically reading non-stop until I finished. That meant that I powered through all of the drama, relationship stuff, and sad bits in just a few hours, and it left me mentally exhausted. There was so much going on in this book!
I don't know about you, but I adore a good bit of drama. If there's some scheming, bitching, fighting etc then I am SO there. In Where You Are, Graham and Emma are officially together (but hiding it for movie promotion purposes), and Brooke and Reid team up to break them up. Brooke is a total bitch, and her plan was brilliant. And it gave me a headache because I love Graham and Emma soooo much, so Brooke trying to break them up so that she could start a relationship with Graham was stressful!
Graham and Emma are AWESOME. Despite the drama and Brooke's plot, there is little of that annoying 'I can't trust you, I'm never talking to you again' stuff that is rampant in YA and television. Perhaps I am watching the wrong shows. Graham and Emma don't break up for silly reasons, they actually work through their issues, and the issues that Brooke is causing. I thought they were adorable! Whether or not Brooke's plan works in the end is a spoiler, so I won't say anything about that. Just know that Graham + Emma = LOVE.
I despise Reid, and I don't like Brooke that much either, but I'm looking forward to (presumably) seeing more of them both in the next book since they have a lot of development to go through, and I'm hoping that Webber can do their stories justice. I just want Brooke to be happy, and for Reid to grow the hell up.
The NA genre continues to baffle me. I've said it before but I shall say it again: I am not sure why NA is a thing. Between the Lines is the only New Adult series that I have read, so maybe it's just this one, but it's basically Young Adult. The sex scenes are mostly fade-to-black, and the only difference I can see is that Emma is eighteen and picking a college to go to in New York.
Where You Are is full of drama, sexy scenes, sexy men (well, just one: GRAHAM!!!) and bitchiness. I think it's a great read if you're in the mood for an entertaining contemporary novel, as it's fast paced and really, really fun. If you don't mind the headache you'll get from worrying about Emma and Graham, of course.
Ooh I liked this one! I'm pretty sure this series is technically a 'mature YA' type of release, not NA, even though some people might be labelling it as that.
ReplyDeleteIt's marketed as NA in the UK, but I agree. It's definitely more YA!
DeleteWhen, Tammara released this series as Indie oub in the U.S. they were (and still are) categorized as mature YA. Easy was her first NA. Also, Good For You is FAB! I loved Reid bythe end of it
DeleteOkay, so, to be honest, I didn't read this review, because I want to read this series, BUT I am so excited that you liked it so much. I really liked Easy, but then all the negative reviews made me second guess my own opinion. Somehow this helps, because I am weak-minded or something. *coughs awkwardly*
ReplyDelete*shuffles away*
That's okay, I still want you here. Come back! I haven't read Easy yet, but I'm hoping I'll like it for the drama llama. Haha, well I'm always here for you when it comes to semi-popular/unpopular opinions. We must stick together!
DeleteI think this was more YA than NA too. I really liked it. Have you read Easy yet? It was really good and more NA than this. I never read the 3rd book. It's just Reid's story right? Great review.

Nope, not yet! I'm definitely going to pick it up at some point because Webber's writing makes these things really enjoyable. Yep, I've heard it's just Reid's story, which should be interesting. It's out in the UK in June, so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up soon!
DeleteBetween the Lines are a bit closer to YA than NA. I think if you read SLAMMED and Losing It as well as The Sea of Tranquility, you'll understand the NA genre.. it is just older, more mature protagonists.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! oh and the third book is actually told from Reid's POV. There is no Emma and Graham at all, but I think it is great we finally focus on Reid :). I know you might disagree, because I did when I just finished Where You Are... but I really enjoyed it!

Eh, those two don't really interest me to be honest. The plots sound so generic and boring. I've heard that The Sea of Tranquillity is absolutely awful, so I'm giving that a pass, haha.
DeleteThank you! No Graham and Emma? *cries* That means that how this book ended is final, right? I'm looking forward to the focus on Reid, I'm just hoping that he develops into a likeable character because I don't think I could stand reading ~350 pages about him when he's being an arsehole, haha.
