Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters

Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Characters

I have to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of secondary characters in literature, TV, or film for the most part. Most of the time I am so invested in the main characters' storylines that I end up completely ignoring and forgetting about the other people. But, occasionally, there are less major characters that touch my heart. Here is my list of favourites, in no particular order.

1. Christian from Vampire Academy

Ever since he first set that guy on fire in the first book, I have been in love with Christian. After Shadow Kiss, my love for Dimitri and Adrian started to fade, and Christian took centre stage. I was very disappointed to find that he wasn't as prominent in the latter half of the Vampire Academy series, especially after he was so badass in Shadow Kiss.

2. Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter

Duh. I don't think anyone can beat McGonagall when it comes to secondary characters. I have loved her ever since she was introduced as a cat within the first five pages of The Philosopher's Stone, and she'll definitely stay with me until the very end forever. Did anyone else cry over her Pottermore info, or was that just me?

3. Fred Weasley from Harry Potter

I used to pretend I was married to Fred when I was younger. I wrote him love letters and everything.

4. Seth from Glow

In the first book he is a villain, and a complete arse. But I guess that's how I like them. I was intrigued and invested in his character and how he was raised, and I was so pleased to find that he's an even more prominent character in Spark, the sequel. Bring on the final book!

5. Ramsay Bolton from A Song of Ice and Fire

Okay, this one is only here to wind Tatum up. I've been telling her all about my Ramsay "feels" for months now, and I don't intend to stop any time soon. And hey, he's memorable! Everyone's going to remember him for being a complete psychopath.

6. Barclay from Unbreakable

Barclay is technically more of a main character in Unbreakable, but since he's a secondary character in Unravelling, let's just roll with it. I wasn't expecting to connect to this guy all that much, especially since he was a bit of a prat in Unravelling, but all of a sudden I was head over heels in love with him. He left a huge impact on me, and I mention him to people every chance I get. I will never be over him.

7. Nick from Altered

Nick is also a bit of a prat in Altered, but I loved him anyway. His good looks had something to do with it, I must admit, but I was also totally engrossed in his story and his background. We learn a lot more about him in Erased, which is out next year, and I can't wait for everyone to discover what makes Nick the way he is. I adore him, and I can't wait for the third book in this trilogy, because it's all about him!

8. Sturmhond from Siege and Storm

I only read this book recently, but to say that Sturmhond had a bit of an impact on me would be an understatement. Sturmhond is initially introduced as a witty, sarcastic privateer, but as you read on you discover that there is so much more to him than that. He had better be in the third book, or I will be forced to boycott.

9. Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter

Dumbledore isn't really a stand-out favourite of mine, but he's definitely one of the most memorable characters I've ever met. Is there anyone in the world who doesn't know who Dumbledore is? I find myself quoting him a lot, or thinking about him when I eat sherbet lemons.

10. Bella Swan from Twilight

Because I will always remember her for being a complete idiot who sulked in her bedroom for three whole months after her boyfriend left her, and then decided to throw herself off a cliff. Suicide is always the best option, right, Meyer?

  6. Excellent list. Harry Potter characters seem to be popular, I couldn't pick between Fred and George though, I love them both so much. Great choices!

  7. I included Adrian instead of Christian, but I did enjoy Christian a lot. Seth, definitely hated him in the first book but so glad we got his POV in the second. Can't wait to see how it all turns out! Great list! ~Pam

  8. OMG I love Seth too! Even though he was completely evil in Glow, he made a huge turnaround in Spark. I can't wait to read Flame! I'm a new follower via GFC and bloglovin :)

  9. I loved the entire Weasley family from Harry Potter, but the twins were definitely the best ones in the family. Nice list.

  10. 1. Ngl, not a huge fan of Christian individually, but I did actually approve of the ship of Lissa (?) and Christian.

    2. I approve. Part of my love is because she's an animagus that turns into a cat. That's so what I would do.

    3. FRED! He was my favorite twin too. *eyes you*

4-6. Haven't read! We were doing so well. What the heck!

    7. Nick is so much more interesting than the other boys, but you already know my opinions on this. Basically, this series and I would have been friends if the heroine was smart enough to be like SAM IS BORING; NICK COME AND GET IT.

    8. MINE.

    9. (I've never been a huge Dumbledore fan, tbh. I think I'm the only one in the world. I mean, I don't DISlike him, but I was nowhere near crying in book 6, and on a list of how much I like all the HP characters, he'd be toward the bottom. So yeah. Don't kill me.)

    10. You're just fucking with us now.
