Top Ten Books to Get in the Halloween Spirit

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I haven't done one of these in a while, but I'm currently in a huge reading funk and don't want to just let me blog go empty until I sort my reading out. So, I decided to join in with TTT this week!

Books to Get in the Halloween Spirit

1. The Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan
This is the first one that came to mind because... well, I'm a HUGE Darren Shan fan! While this series isn't overly creepy, it's freakin' amazing and there are some top gory moments. I just had to list it!

2. The Devouring by Simon Holt
I read this earlier on this year and ended up really enjoying it. There were some REALLY creepy moments, and I hate possession (and by hate, I mean LOVE) stories so this was excellent!

3. The Demonata Series by Darren Shan
Oh, look! What a surprise, I'm talking about Darren Shan again. These books are a heck of a lot creepier than the Saga. They're about demons and curses and werewolves and magic. Trust me, you will want to read this series around Halloween!
4. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
This isn't scary, but it IS very creepy! You have no idea what's happening to Mara for most of the book. Is she insane? Is she being haunted? You really don't know.

5. The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
This book is creepy because you get to look into the mind of the murderer. Kimberly Derting did a fantastic job with it. Come to think of it, The Last Echo is actually just as creepy, if not creepier, than this one!

6. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Everyone loves zombies, right? They were my favourite characters of this book.

7. Any Point Horror novel
Who else read these when they were younger? Some of the books in this LOOOOOONG series were my favourites of my earlier years. I think I started reading them when I was eight, and carried on until I was about thirteen. I really want to start collecting them again! My favourites were Freeze Tag, My Secret Admirer and The Babysitter. What were yours?
8. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
While I wasn't a *huge* fan of this book, there is no denying that it has some creepy scenes. I can think of two in particular that gave me shivers, one near the beginning and the other near the end of the book.

9. The Dead of Winter by Chris Priestly
This isn't a very popular book, but it's short and creepy and that's just what you need on Halloween!

10. Unwind by Neal Shusterman
I'm sure you all know about this one. This is one of the most disturbing books I have ever read, and I LOVED it! There is one chapter in which... I won't tell you, but I will say that it's the scariest thing I have ever read.

    1. I know, right?! I wonder if Michelle Hodkin pulls that off again in the second book... I love not knowing what's going on! As long as it's nothing ridiculous, of course.

    1. Thanks! Haha, I don't read much horror either, but that's only because there aren't many in the YA genre. I'm hoping for a horror trend!
