Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2013

I wasn't sure how many new authors I had read this year, but I was happy to discover that there are a bunch of them that I now love. Making this list was a lot easier than I had imagined! These people are behind some of my all time favourite books, which I was so happy to discover in 2013. They're all fantastic!

1. Kasie West
She's the first author I read this year, and she has quickly shot up to my favourites. Pivot Point was an amazing read, and Ms. West is also rather good (understatement) at writing contemporary as well.

2. Jennifer Rush
Jenn is amazing! Altered was a brilliant read, and I've been pushing it on everyone all year. I've gotten to know Jenn a bit, and we're totally going out for coffee if I'm ever in her area. Or maybe we should start a campaign to get Jenn to London? Anyway, I love her books and I love that she loves my epic fangirling. No shame!

3. Jodi Lynn Anderson
I've only read one book by Ms. Anderson, but Tiger Lily was OH MY GOD AMAZING. The writing style is beautiful, the storyline is heartbreaking, and JUST. READ. IT.

4. Harper Lee
I know, I was really late in reading To Kill a Mockingbird. But I did it, and now I'm a giant Harper Lee fan.

5. Emily Murdoch
Emily to Judith is what Jennifer Rush is to me, and I'm so happy that Judith book pushed If You Find Me onto me so hard. Otherwise I might not have read it for ages, and it's fantastic. Emily Murdoch is also really lovely, as I came to discover from Twitter.

6. Madeline Miller

"We were like gods at the dawning of the world, and our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other."

"Perhaps it is the greatest grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone."

7. Siobhan Vivian
I couldn't include Jenny Han on this list since I had already read two of her books before I read Burn For Burn, but ERMEHGERD, these two are fantastic. Fire With Fire destroyed me.

8. Josin L. McQuein
I think Ms. McQuein is really talented, and I've really enjoyed both of the books I've read by her this year. She's great at writing thrillers! Also ships. And I need my ship in Meridian, okay?

9. Tammara Webber
I didn't think I'd enjoy her contemporary series, Between the Lines, all that much, but then I started reading and I was kind of swept away. The final book in that series DESTROYED me.

10. Joe Hill
I started reading the Locke & Key graphic novels back in September, and they're fantastic. So much gore, horror, action, mystery, amazing characters (looking at Dodge)... Seriously, if you're a fan of graphic novels, or want to start reading them, I would totally recommend reading Locke & Key. Just be warned that they include a lot of classic horror themes, such as rape and, obviously, murder.

  5. I loved Tammara Webber's Easy! And you're right, I kind of dont think I'll like her Between The Lines series too, which is why I haven't read it. But now I'm tempted ;) I'm SO enjoying Jodi Lynn Anderson at the moment, but since I'm still reading Tiger Lily (I like to stroke the cover. A LOT), I haven't added her to my list.

So many authors you're got here are on my tbr list, and now it's making me feel guilty. Blah. HAVE to get to them next year!

  8. Kasie West -- I stared at PIVOT POINT for the longest time at the bookstore. Your commentary on the author has convinced me to pick it up!

  9. Yessssssss for Jenn and Emily! I love them. Of course.

And you don't want to read Jodi Lynn Anderson's other books, because they're meh. I enjoyed them when I was fourteen, but yeah.

  13. Kasie West. Yes yes. Also, I really want to read Meridian only to see what happens with the ship. The rest of it I'm like whatever, but I MUST KNOW. If she goes with boring dude, I will flip some tables.
