Debut Showcase: January 2014

After a long hiatus caused by my fabulous new job, the Debut Showcase is now back and ready to show off some debuts! I'll be doing things slightly differently this year, but you'll have to wait a while to see what I mean by that. (Because I'm still working out the kinks and I need more time.)

The purpose of this feature is to show you guys which YA debuts I'm most looking forward to, and which ones I've enjoyed. Hopefully it'll also help build some buzz around some of these debuts. There will be one post at the beginning of each month, this time showing all the debuts that are being released in that month. I'll also be linking to my reviews of debuts from the previous month, rather than listing them all here.
I'm pretty sure this is about mermaids! Will Tatum finally get the epic mermaid novel she has been coveting?
The reviews for this fantasy novel haven't been great, but I'll still give it a go eventually. Then again, I said that for Prophecy last year as well.
This is about a guy who is a champion boxer, who sends his opponent to the emergency room, and in return is sent to Phoenix Island. It sounds like a good thriller!
Red Rising is a dystopian (?) novel about a guy called Darrow who is part of the lowest caste of society. I'm pretty sure he's gonna be rising up and killing them all, so I am intrigued by this book!
This is an historical novel set in London, "where women are taught to be nothing more than wives and mothers". Guys, this has the potential to make me cry. Gimme!
I have seen so many raving reviews for this novel, which is pitched as Graceling meets Beauty and the Best. I've been avoiding paying too much attention to the synopsis, because I want to go in knowing absolutely nothing!
This is about a girl whose best friend is murdered. Of course, the protagonist has to try to find the killer, because the cops are useless.

Which of these are y'all looking forward to? Have you read any already? I know a bunch of people have been reading Cruel Beauty already, so if you are one of those people then you'll have to let me know what you thought of it in the comments!

    1. I'm so glad to hear that! I hope that I like it when I eventually get to it. Cruel Beauty was quite good, but I didn't think it was as amazing as people were saying.

  4. I haven't heard about A Mad, Wicked Folly, but I looked it up and it sounds like my cup of tea (I, too, love historicals). Thanks for posting and letting us know about these upcoming releases.
Do you know if the spine, itself, of Erased by Jennifer Rush is going to be the same as Altered? I know there was a slight cover change.

    1. You are welcome!

I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Rush said that the spines are going to be the same. I hope they are, because they HAVE to look good on my shelf!
