Debut-a-Thon Day 4 + Challenge #4

Day 4!

I can't believe it's the last day already! This read-a-thon has gone by way too fast. I'm rather ashamed to say that I didn't read very much yesterday. I think I read about three chapters of Angelfall. I have a good excuse though, and that is I decided to get sunburnt and drunk with the rest of my village since there were festivities happening. Now I'm currently hoping I won't have to nurse a hangover.

Challenge #4

For your fourth and final challenge (ikr? *sobs*), you are required to SOLVE THAT DEBUT. Unsure what that means? Me too. 

Basically the idea is to figure out which debuts I'm talking about from my ridiculous descriptions. Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard, but I am still slightly drunk right now so... I'm unsure.

1. A girl with an annoyingly infamous mother is one of a kind at a boarding school for magical folk. Can she solve a murder and set herself apart from her mother?

4. A family are on the run for reasons unknown to the protagonist. Can she discover the reasons behind all this special treatment before the past catches up with her?

5. A thirteen year old girl returns home after a trip to camp, only to discover that she's been missing for three years and has no recollection of what happened to her.

Debut-a-Thon Day 3 + Challenge #3

Day Three!
It's finally the weekend! I have been waiting for Saturday all week, 1) because it's Feast Day and that means there's a celebration going on in my village, and 2) because I don't work at the weekends. Hopefully I'll be able to get lots of reading done today, and I'm especially excited to see what everyone else will be getting into, since I know that quite a few people weren't able to read much during Days 1 and 2.

I'm currently reading Angelfall by Susan Ee, which is a UK debut since it came out here last month. So you guys can stop shouting at me about that now. I finished If You Find Me last night and cried for about an hour. But it's all good, since it was awesome. I'll thank Judith for the recommendation once my heart is less broken.

Day Two!
So, how did your first day of reading go? Well, I hope! Never fear, I have been watching everyone's updates. I can't believe that some of you have finished books already. Actually, I can, because I'm surrounded by a bunch of reading machines! I was really busy yesterday, but I still managed to read about what I was expecting. Today is my mum's birthday, and I'm at work once again, so I'm not sure how much reading I will get done, but I do hope to finish If You Find Me!

After two months of planning and running around like crazy, the debut-a-thon has officially begun! The Kiwis and Aussies have almost finished their first day, whereas the rest of us are just beginning. If you're chatting on Twitter with us, don't forget to use the #debutathon hashtag!

Debut-a-Thon: Kick Off!

The debut-a-thon is just around the corner for most of us, while those who live in New Zealand (Greg, I'm looking at you!) get to start RIGHT NOW. This excites me, because the debut-a-thon has still officially begun. Even if I'm not reading yet.

Being British, I won't actually get to start reading for the debut-a-thon for another eleven hours, but I am ready. Beyond ready, in fact. I have my book list (mostly) prepared, I have coffee and food in my bedroom, ready for quick access. The only thing that's not ready and in my bedroom is myself, because by the time you read this I will be at work. But once I'm home at 7PM, I'll be counting down the hours, as well as envying everyone who's in mainland Europe, because they're a whole hour (or two!) ahead of me. *glares at Judith and Debby*. 

Anyway, I hope you're all as excited as I am about this read-a-thon. Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up so far and spread the word. There are, as I'm typing this, over forty people taking part! I know, I nearly cried too. I honestly thought it was just going to be me and Judith!

Debut-a-Thon: Recommendations

I am hosting a read-a-thon, did you know? In case you have no idea what I'm about to talk about, here is a quick introduction:

I've been spending a lot of my online life this year promoting and talking about 2013 YA debuts. I have a monthly showcase feature, and two of my favourite books of the year thus far have been from debut authors. The Debut Showcase feature is a lot of fun to write, but it's not really something that other people can partake in. So, naturally, my silly little brain went to work and came up with THIS.

Basically, I'm hosting a read-a-thon at the end of June that will focus on 2013 debuts. You can sign up for the read-a-thon here.

Since it's such a specific requirement in comparison to those read-a-thons that allow for any book to be read, I wanted to give you guys some recommendations well in advance to help you decide which debuts to buy and read. You can see what other people have recommended in the spreadsheet below.
