Top Ten Books That Will Make You Cry

Top Ten Books That Will Make You Cry

Was this topic made specifically for me or what? I love reading books that make me cry, and I'm sure everyone knows it by now. It's not just because I like to torture myself, although that's part of the reason why. It's because I feel like if I cry over a book, it means that I've connected with the characters or the story on some deep emotional level. And that's the mark of a good book, in my opinion. This is why most of the books on my 2013 favourites list were ones that made me sob into my pillow.

  1. I totally agree with you regarding connecting with the characters and story. I love reading books that make me cry. It's liberating somehow. If a book has made me cry, it almost always ends up on my favourites shelf.

I haven't read many of the books on your list, but the ones I have read (Harry Potter, Eleanor and Park) I can totally see why they would be here. I am kind of kicking myself for not adding Harry Potter to my list *Sigh*.

    Great list,

  2. That's exactly how I feel when a book makes me cry. It always feels like I've connected a lot more with the ones that make me cry than the ones that don't. I totally agree with every book on your list that I've read (which is like half your list) and I'd probably agree with the other half if I'd read them. Unbreakable and Tiger Lily were soul destroying, Mockingjay and Deathly Hallows are full of UNNECESSARY DEATH, and Eleanor and Park was just <3.

I'll definitely need to get around to the others soon - especially Chaos Walking & Second Chance Summer. I'm pretty sure they're going to destroy me as well.

    Brilliant list, Amber! :D

  3. That's also how I feel about crying. There aren't a lot of books that touched me in such a way, so when I find one it's automatically a special book. It doesn't even have to be a book I immensely loved, but being able to connect with the story/characters is something wonderful.

Tiger Lily RUINED me and it's still one of the best fairytale retellings I've ever read. And that says a lot, because I read them often. Harry Potter, yes, this series has been a rollercoaster of emotions! I still feel like sobbing when I think about some of my favorite characters </3

  4. Oh my, I just got Tiger Lily on audio. I didn't realize it would be so sad. I better make sure I'm in the mood for that before starting it. I LOVED Eleanor & Park. Great picks! :)

  5. So many tearful books. Ahhh I forgot to include Mockingjay, that tore me to pieces. I actually had to put the book down in that one scene because I couldn't stop crying.

  6. Although Patrick Ness is my favourite author, I keep putting his Chaos Walking series off because of how devastating I've heard it is. I don't think I can handle it!

  9. I love when books make me cry because as you said it means I really connected with the characters and that's also a mark for a brilliant author. A lot of the books you listed have made me cry too, especially Eleanor and Park, HP and Second Chance Summer.

  11. I've got several of these on my list too! I'm surprised to see Tiger Lily on here - I own it but haven't read it yet (because I'm a giant dork and saving it to read on the plane on my way to Disney in May). I didn't know it was a sad one!

  12. I haven't read most of these but I did sob my way through HP 5 and 7, as well as Mockingjay. Holy shit, the tears. However, I read E&P twice without tears, for I am a heartless monster. It's those big series enders that kill me.

    1. It also occurs to me that I need to have someone spoil the end of VA for me, because I cannot go back to it after the Russia book. I CANNOT. I AM TOO ANGRY.
