Top Ten Books I'd Recommend to Amber and Lauren

Top Ten Books I'd Recommend to Amber and Lauren
I love recommending books, especially to people who are as passionate about reading as I am. Amber and Lauren are two of my favourite people, so I thought I'd harass encourage them to read some of the best most life-ruining novels I've ever read :')

In no real order because what is organisation...

Amber:

1. The Lord of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

Because it's epic, amazing and I really want Amber to play the Harry Potter Game, negl. Also so I can watch her descend into a mess of feels over everything that happens, and be amused when she inevitably grows to loathe Frodo Baggins. He is the worst, it is known. Although I have this deep suspicion she'll stan Sauron just to upset me ('Dude, he's totally evil, what is wrong with you?' 'He's just misunderstood, okay. Like Ramsay Bolton!')

2. The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter

Because it's this fabulous collection of fairy tales that will be familiar to everyone, except with more murder
and sex. It's super cool and super feminist, plus Angela Carter's prose is stunning. Implied sex with wolves, Amber. SEX.WITH.WOLVES.

3. Lord of The Flies by William Golding

It's genuinely horrifying is why. Take a bunch of kids, leave them on an island to fend for themselves and witness the descent into savagery. Glorious; good luck trusting children after reading this book tbh.

4. Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks

A story about the First World War; bleak yet beautifully written, this is one of my all time favourite historical novels. Just ignore the love story, because I didn't care and neither will Amber, and everything will be grand.

5. Stardust by Neil Gaiman

Everyone should read at least one of Gaiman's novels, and I chose Stardust because it's so much fun. I love fantastical tales which pull you in to the world, and Gaiman has a talent for sweeping away the real world in favour of the world between his pages. Definitely a novel for a rainy, miserable day *nods*

Lauren:

1. Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Blunt

Lauren:
Me:
2. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Fun fact: Lauren already owns this book but is avoiding it because she's a wimp. Look okay, it's not even that sad. Amber didn't even like it that much!

3. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Because Lauren needs to join the 'Patrick Ness ruined my life and I will never be whole again' club. Being happy is overrated, and these are books about freedom! and revolution! and feminism! and oppression! and love! and friendship! All fun stuff. Lauren will love it, I'm sure :')

4. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

It's about Angels  The mythology is very cool, and I liked the romance a lot. But mostly Angels, lbr.

5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Because DEATH IS THE NARRATOR. And books, books, so much love for books, it makes me cry. And Rudy and Liesl and Hans and Max and my tears, so many tears, they are neverending.

LOOK AT THAT, I MADE IT THROUGH TEN WHOLE RECS WITHOUT MENTIONING DEATHLESS OR CODE NAME VERITY. AREN'T YOU PROUD

  1. Yeah, so this list totally wants me to read all of the books mentioned and re-read The Knife of Never Letting Go even though it's been less than ten days since I last (for the first time ever) read it. But gaaah, I can't go through all those feels again even though I really want to.

Clearly, I'm a pretty confused person.

  2. 1) Yeah, the gifs are pretty much telling me to avoid that one like the plague, ngl.
    2) I HAVE FINALLY READ IT AND I HATE YOU IT WAS ANOTHER TWIST & SHOUT MOMENT HOW DARE YOU.
    3) I promise I will get around to this eventually!
    4) You keep reccing this to me and I am still confused as to why, but I'll give it a go. Soon... ish.
    5) I know this book is really popular what with the film and everything (and yes I know it's about books and Death is a narrator), but I'm not really sure I want to read yet another Holocaust book from the pov of yet more Sympathetic And Good Germans, tbh. Like, how about we get a story from the actual victim's pov for once? Eh, I might read it, just so I know what everyone's talking about, but it's never going to be at the top of my list, tbh.

I've already read 4 out of the 5 you recced to Amber. How come I don't get the Sex With Wolves rec? I feel left out tbh :(

  4. "Because Lauren needs to join the 'Patrick Ness ruined my life and I will never be whole again' club." I just finished the Chaos Walking trilogy and can't agree with this enough. It totally ruined my life and I have no idea what to do now.
