Top Ten Books I'd Give A Theme Song To

Top Ten Books I'd Give a Theme Song To

This was such a fun list to write! Some of my choices are a bit obscure (cf. #10), but I'm not even sorry. Feel free to link up your lists in the comments below so I can see which topic you've chosen to do this week!

1. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins ---- The Antidote by Story of the Year

This choice might have something to do with the fact that there's a truly epic Spartacus fanvid to this song, and it automatically makes me think of rebellion and standing up for what you believe in. It reminds me of Katniss and the Districts rising up against the Capitol. "All we need is a reason, all we need is right here inside us all."

2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling ---- This is War by Thirty Seconds to Mars
On a somewhat related note, This is War reminds me of the final Harry Potter book because it's a song about war affecting everybody, no matter who you are, and ultimately ending in peace.

3. Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout ---- If I Lose Myself by OneRepublic
This song reminds me a lot of Daemon and Katy, because they'll always be standing next to each other, no matter what. And I chose Onyx because Origin was an embarrassment.

4. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson ---- Roar by Katy Perry
This song reminds me a lot of Tiger Lily, who was treated like shit by her peers and eventually left by Peter Pan. But she's a strong, smart, independent young woman, and although she lost a lot, she is still one of the strongest people in Neverland.

5. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong ---- Howl by Florence and the Machine

This song is basically Elena.

6. Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness ---- Breath of Life by Florence and the Machine
Breath of Life fits with what Todd is going through in this book while he does a lot of bad things for the right reasons. "Whose side am I on? ... And although I wasn't losing my mind, it was a chorus so sublime."

7. Blackout by Robison Wells ---- We R Who We R by Ke$ha

Okay, so this probably seems like a strange choice. You're probably all "WTF, Amber, why are you putting a Ke$ha club song with a book about people with superpowers?" Well, because Blackout is about terrorists who are taking down the United States of America, and a government who is trying to control them. I think most of the lyrics fit really well: "Hot and dangerous, if you're one of us then roll with us." "We running this town just like a club, and no you don't wanna mess with us." "Tonight we're going hard, just like the world is ours, we're tearing it apart, you know we're superstars, we are who we are." It works!

8. My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent ---- Try by Pink
I can't talk about this one too much without going into spoilers, but it fits with certain characters' relationships very well. The song is very Kaylee, because she's strong and badass and I love her.

9. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin ---- Meds by Placebo
Pretty self explanatory. Mara thinks she's losing her mind, and is put on medication to help with that. Her family and doctors all think that she's crazy, which doesn't help matters.

10. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater ---- I'm Blue by Eiffel 65
I think it's safe to say that I struggled with picking a tenth pairing. I couldn't resist.

  1. THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME TOP TEN.

Most of the songs I'd tie to books are off of soundtracks tbh. Hmmm...I'll be thinking about this whenever I read now...

    (Great songs here too btw)

  7. Thanks! It was kind of hard to find one for Deathly Hallows, but I couldn't NOT include it. I was going to pair The Antidote with it at first.
